While cookie-cutter, imitation “hip stuff” can be found on the shelves of Ross, to really get the heart-quality goods, one must go closer to the source. At the Retro Indie Market, seekers can wander rows upon rows of genuine treasures, displayed and offered for purchase by the very folks who made or cared for them — this is where the heart quality enters the picture. With 60 confirmed vendors and counting, this show ought to have a special find for just about everyone who walks through the door. Some possible eye-catchers: vintage neckties, retro flower tea sets, hand-stitched sock monkeys, duct-tape jewelry, artisan bathroom tiles and light switch covers, hipster approved v-neck T-shirts, kitschy handbags and wallets, punk-rock baby supplies, and cupcakes and ice cream that would make anything that came out of Dairy Queen melt from embarrassment.
For those familiar with indie craft culture, this event is set to be a big celebration of your DIY ethos. For newbies, this is a great opportunity to check it out and smile as you walk out with blouse buttons dangling from your ears and a drawer pull hanging around your neck. Doors open at 11 a.m., and admission costs $5 (kids 12 and under are admitted free with an adult). The show is located at the Boynton Beach Woman’s Club (1010 S. Federal Highway, Boynton Beach).
