Dissolve the Walls!

“Can’t you just pretend like we can’t hear each other through the walls?” You may remember that line from the cult classic Office Space, and if you’re like lots of apartment-dwelling folks, you may relate very much to the sentiment. For many, any neighborly communication beyond a nod and “hello” is viewed as an invasion of privacy. Fortunately, there are some who are intent on counterbalancing this habitual craving for solitude. “Love Thy Neighbor: Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts Resident Artists Group Exhibition” (1310 Middle St., Fort Lauderdale) will feature deep creative communication in various forms — painting, photography, sculpture, music, writing, and more — from 27 inspired peeps who dwell in close proximity to one another in the artist community in downtown Fort Lauderdale. This will be the first resident-only show in more than two years.

Included in the eclectic show will be work from painter Lisa Rockford, whose She-Monster series offers a modern look at powerful and controversial female figures from history and various mythologies; Diego Romero, whose visually engaging ink drawings contemplate confusion and conflict, both within the individual and the collective, global situation; and painter Christine Valez Stone, whose Picnic series provides respite from such difficulties in its various scenes centered on red-and-white-checkered blankets. Saturday’s opening reception will also feature music and performances from singer Dana Dellacamera of Nakedown and others. The show begins at 7 p.m. and is free. Bring three cans or boxes of nonperishable food to be entered into a raffle to win some artwork. Visit sailboatbendartists.com, or call 954-729-5794.
