Pain: a physical suffering or distress. Mental or emotional torment. Or so says Dictionary.com.
But is it that easy to define pain? For centuries, artists and writers have been exploring the concept in their works. Whether you’ve experienced your fair share or you have luckily been spared its daggers, you can get a dose of the antidote — pleasure — by checking out a killer art party tonight.
The Bubble Gallery (810 NE Fourth Ave., Fort Lauderdale) invites you to dig up all your tortured memories for “The Art of Pain,” an artistic showcase featuring 20 artists who explore the meaning of pain through painting and photography. Artists include Valyn Calhoun, Rory Carracino, Kimberly Kearney, and Rosa Mia Hernandez. The torture begins at 7 p.m., and throughout the evening, Pocket of Lollipops, the Loxahatchee Sinners Union, Dooms de Pop, and Xela Zaid will take the stage. There is a $10 cover (includes all-you-can-drink beer) and an afterparty to follow at the Green Room. Visit independentworkingartistnetwork.com.
