In January 2010, a 7.0 earthquake tragically hit Haiti, sending widespread devastation and damage throughout the country. Structures collapsed and innocent lives were taken, leaving the country with little hope of recovery. Following the tragedy, the world pulled together, charities formed, and rescue teams were sent, all in the name of rebuilding. In the hopes of assisting with the Haitian relief, the artist community of Lake Worth created an event that fused creativity and food. Now, two years later, Haiti still needs our help. Returning for a third year, the Haitian Empty Bowl Fundraiser takes over downtown Lake Worth on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees purchase uniquely decorated bowls and spend the afternoon sampling food from a slew of participating restaurants, including Downtown Pizza, Brogues on the Avenue, and Nature’s Way Cafe. Proceeds from the event go toward the children of Jacmel, Haiti. Bowls are available for purchase at the Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery (605 Lake Ave., Lake Worth) for $25 in advance, four bowls for $80, and $35 on the day of the event.
