Burn Notice

Despite our miles of gleaming beaches, our gorgeous sunny weather, and our notoriously sexy population cruising around in expensive sports cars, there aren’t actually many films or television shows shot in South Florida. And the ones that are, like Burn Notice, are mostly filmed in Miami. In 2010, the Palm Beach County Filmmakers was founded to help change that. A collection of local independent actors, writers, photographers, and other creative types decided that if they wanted to work in a thriving local film industry, they’d have to create that industry themselves. In addition to open casting calls, panel discussions, and workshops, the key to that ongoing mission is the humble networking event. Held monthly at various locations, the next Mix & Mingle event will be at Nakava (140 NW 20th St., Boca Raton; 561-395-9888). Sip kava while chatting up fellow actors or trading business cards with aspiring producers. If you’ve got a headshot or a résumé, submit it to PBCF’s Talent Bible. Everyone is welcome, and the event is free. If you’d like to become a member of PBCF, the usual $50 annual fee is only $25 until April 30.
