Breathe In, Breathe Out, Outdoors

Lifelong athlete Barbara Hutson discovered the healing power of yoga when it helped her to get back on her feet — or foot, if she is doing tree pose — after a devastating bicycle accident about a year ago. To show her appreciation for yoga and to help others discover it for themselves, she organized the inaugural Riverwalk Yoga Fest, which takes place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Esplanade Park (400 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Over the course of the day, a series of instructional sessions lead by Lorrie Conglose and Lal Maharajh from the Vastu Global School of Sivananda Yoga will cover a variety of yogic practices, from asanas (poses) to breathing and relaxation. The event will also feature vendors dealing in healthful food, organic yoga clothing, reflexology, massage, and other uplifting goods and services. Admission to the event is free, but the organizers ask that you bring nonperishable food items or a cash donation that will be channeled to LifeNet4Families Food Bank and Riverwalk Trust. Call 954-616-8095, or visit goriverwalk.com.
