“Candola” is basically a gondola race held annually in the “Venice of America,” Fort Lauderdale, and sponsored by Red Bull. Saturday’s race course is a third of a mile, stretching from Huizenga Plaza (32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) to Esplanade Park (400 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Audiences may gawk from a number of vantage points along the route. And gawk they shall, as the competing watercraft are said to be bizarre. Further details are not forthcoming, but the names of the participating teams suggest a charmingly irreverent approach to watersports. Show up from 9 to 10:30 a.m. to interact with the athletes, and then cheer them on — Team Cojones! Team Dances With Moose! Swamp Donkeys!
