Yanni at Kravis Center on April 17 and 18

In 2012, Yanni is often an easy punch line; anytime someone needs a quick quip about the New Age and easy-listening cultural moments of the early '90s, Yanni's the guy.

The Greek composer particularly didn't help himself much on the latter front with his famous, overblown, 1994 Live at the Acropolis DVD, his long curls flowing over a billowy white blouse as he tinkled the ivories alongside the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

But Yanni's accomplishments give him the last laugh — he's one of the few who's succeeded in making a form of contemporary classical music massively popular. It may not be the edgiest material, but to a great many, Yanni makes simply beautiful music.
