Let’s Hope It Lives Up to Its Title

Like superheroes battling a common enemy, two of South Florida’s newest theater companies will band together Monday in what they hope will be a victory for both of them. Parade Productions, a Mizner Park-based company with just one production under its belt, will host a reading of Better Than Damn Good, a comedy by Stuart Meltzer, founder of Miami’s Zoetic Stage. Talented actors from both Parade and Zoetic will “perform” in a play Meltzer penned several years back about a day in the life of a woman whose divorce has just been finalized. “Her best friend decides to have her celebrate life on this day rather than lament it,” he says. “Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the day gets the better of both of them, and they find themselves mixed up in other kinds of relationships. It’s basically about living life and living in the moment.” It’s only fitting that Parade Productions founder Kim St. Leon will direct the reading; the play is inspired by the real-life relationship between Meltzer and St. Leon, fostered when both were newbies in the South Florida theater scene. Better Than Damn Good is at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Studio at Mizner Park (201 Plaza Real, Boca Raton). Tickets cost $12. Call 866-811-4111, or visit paradeproductions.org.
