Trade in your hard-knock life for a Hard Rock life and a chance to fly to England for an unforgettable concert in Hyde Park. The Hard Rock and New Times have partnered up to send two music lovers to Hard Rock Calling 2012, July 13 to 15. Over three days on three stages in the very heart of London, you will see such musical acts as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Lady Antebellum, Paul Simon, Christina Perri, and Alison Krauss.
Although this contest will involve your getting up on a stage with a musical instrument in front of a restaurant full of strangers, there will be no panel of mean-spirited judges to critique your performance. Winning is as simple as strumming a guitar and requires no musical ability whatsoever. It works like this: Show up to the Hard Rock Cafe at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at 6 p.m. Out front will be a sign-up sheet. Sign up. This will put your name into the figurative hat. Over the course of the evening, 25 contestants will be called to the stage five at a time and each handed a guitar. Only one of the guitars is connected to the sound system. If your guitar is the one to be heard, you have won yourself a spot in the final round. And if you don’t win the grand prize, you can still walk away with one of the many other prizes, including T-shirts and gift cards. The final round works the same as the others, except this time the one with the plugged-in guitar wins the trip for two to London including airfare, three nights’ hotel accommodations, concert tickets, and $300 spending money.
