Help bring awareness to the importance of keeping our beaches and oceans clean by taking part in the Jellyfish Drift Project on Saturday. A unique brushed-aluminum jellyfish sculpture, created by Palm Beach eco-artist Paulo, has been engraved with messages promoting ocean preservation. The sculpture will be released into the Gulfstream, where it will act as a message in a bottle for those who encounter the sculpture when it washes ashore. Lest you think that releasing a sculpture in the ocean sounds a lot like tossing garbage into the ocean, know that the seaworthy piece will be outfitted with a special GPS device to track it as it makes its journey along the Atlantic. Experienced paddleboarders and kayakers are invited to join Paulo, the Surfrider Foundation of Palm Beach, and the City of Boynton Beach’s Art in Public Places committee for the special release ceremony at the Boynton Inlet Park in Boynton Beach. Paddlers will journey two miles offshore for the sendoff. The safety boat that will accompany paddlers offshore will take the sculpture the remainder of the distance to the Gulfstream, where it will begin its special voyage. Boynton Inlet Park is located at 6990 N. Ocean Blvd. in Boynton Beach. To join the event and to rent equipment, contact Cynthia Trone at Jupiter Point Paddling at 561-629-3765 or wavemomma@gmail.com. To volunteer your boat or WaveRunner to be used for the ocean escort, contact Brett Prinz at Crowd Control Surf Co. at 561-723-8039 or crowdcontrolinc@gmail.com.
