When a grown woman in ripped fishnets by the name of Carnivorous Licks invites you to an event, you don't ask questions -- you just go. Carnivorous Licks and the Gold Coast Derby Grrls invite you to watch as they elbow their way to the top in the Sunshine Skate Smackdown, Friday through Monday, at War Memorial Auditorium in Fort Lauderdale. Each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., teams from around the state will go skate-to-skate in a three-day tournament to win $1,000 and bragging rights as Florida's top derby team. Saturday at 7 p.m., watch the Gold Coast speed demons make the South Florida Men's derby team cry for their mamas during a special "Battle of the Sexes" game. Want to take your chances in the rink against these hometown badasses? Register your team using the link on the Gold Coast Derby Grrl's Facebook page ($35 per skater, register by Thursday; or $45 per skater at the door). If you'd rather keep your teeth intact, tickets for the event cost $10 for a one-day pass, $18 for a two-day pass, or $25 for all three days.
