What if Stephen King were hunted down by a rabid dog or a crazy car? Or if Anne Rice were suddenly bitten by vampires? In the "be careful what you write" category, the award-winning 1981 play In a Talent for Murder follows a best-selling mystery novelist who finds herself at the center of a murder plot, prompting her to solve the whodunit before she becomes its victim. The suspect can be anyone in her family of avaricious cretins eying her literary dough. This self-reflexive thriller is rife with comedic asides, which is no surprise considering that its cowriter, Norman Panama, penned jokes for the likes of Bob Hope and Groucho Marx. It's running now through October 21 at the Delray Beach Playhouse, located at 950 NW Ninth St., Delray Beach. Tickets cost $30. Call 561-272-1282, or visit delraybeachplayhouse.com.
Tuesdays, 8 p.m.; Wednesdays, 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 8 p.m.; Fridays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 9. Continues through Oct. 21, 2012
