Muggles, Be Warned

Looking for a more authentic Halloween celebration this year? The Moon Path Chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS) will present their 15th-annual Witches Ball on Saturday. For local wiccas and pagans, this annual ball marks the Samhain celebration of the new year, or "Halloween" for us Walmart-era folk. Live music, a raffle, a costume contest, and other "typical" party happenings will help pass the time until midnight, when the real ritual begins. The sacred colors of black and orange will be adorned. Curses from the year past will be expunged. Spirits will be awakened and revered around sacred fires. Costumes and BYOB are encouraged. What about this does not sound awesome? But take note, muggles: If you are coming just to check it out, the covenant asks that you please be respectful. So do it. The Witches Ball will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fort Lauderdale (3970 NW 21st Ave.). Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the festivities will last long after midnight (it is the witching hour, right?) Tickets cost $15 at the door. Call 954-484-6734, or visit moonpathcuups.org/wball.htm.
Sat., Oct. 27, 7:30 p.m., 2012
