Prep Out For Charity

Years before New York City indie troupe Vampire Weekend had kids bopping to African pop and jostling for Sperry Top-Siders, there was Pittsburgh's Rusted Root. Back in 1995, this percussive six-piece had college kids swaying with such Afro-pop hits as "Send Me on My Way" and "Ecstasy." Although they disbanded for a while, Boca Raton preps are in luck, because this '90s outfit is back, and its tropical beats are stronger than ever. The best news of all is that this grooving sextet is performing for a charity on Wednesday, at cushy German watering hole Biergarten. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the gig will go to Fight for Sylvia's Angels, a nonprofit charity helping women fight breast cancer. This over-18 event happens at Biergarten, located at Royal Palm Place, 309 Via De Palmas in Boca Raton, at 6 p.m. Call 561-395-7462, or visit fightforsylviasangels.org. General admission is $40.
Wed., Nov. 7, 6 p.m., 2012
