You Don't Have to Bike Alone

In an effort to build excitement for Delray Beach's Twilight Festival, a nighttime criterium cycling competition (a bicycle racing event that occurs on closed public roads) that will take over the streets of downtown Delray Beach on March 22, event organizers have been organizing weekly group bike rides every Sunday morning since December. Their goal is to train a group of amateurs to race the nocturnal physical yet festive affair (promoters compare it to Mardi Gras meets the Tour de France.) Even though the main event will feature a race with criterium cycling professionals from around the world, there will also be tracks designed with amateurs in mind. The Sunday bike ride group meets at a predetermined bicycle shop each week and is open to cyclists of every skill level, with three to four courses set for each. Participants can also expect some goodies from Dunkin' Donuts for carbo-loading purposes. This week's Free Sunday Fun Ride begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Doghouse Bike Shop, located at 5905 N. Federal Highway in Boca Raton. Call 561-869-4916, or visit delraybeachtwilight.com.
Sundays, 7:30 a.m. Starts: March 10. Continues through March 22, 2013
