Namastefarians

The yogis and the Rastafarians can finally come together on common ground – not that they couldn't before – but not they have reason to! This 2013 Yogafest, presented by YogaFox, takes place on 4/20 and so, of course, it is reggae themed. Relocated from last year's digs in West Palm Beach, this year's bendy-fest will take place in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale at Huizenga Plaza. There will be three sessions of classes at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. Then at 4 p.m. Keith Fox of YogaFox in Delray Beach will lead a class while live music is perfomed by Maya Puris. At 6 p.m. local reggae favorites, the Resolvers take the stage and then the Spam All-Stars from Miami go on at 8 p.m. Twelve teachers and speakers from local studios and spiritual centers will take part, including special guest speaker, Swami Jaya Devi of Kashi Atlanta. Admission for the entire day is $20, but if you are a yogi-come-lately and arrive after 3:30 p.m. for just the yoga with live music and concerts, you can get in for $5. A VIP pass can be purchased for a $108 contribution to the Mahashakti Foundation, which offers classes and instruction to underprivileged youth, the elderly, and the underprivileged. You will have all day access to the VIP zone at Maxwell Room across from Huizenga Plaza with free refreshments, chair massage and other healing arts, samples and presentations of Yoga and Wellness topics and admission to the afterparty at Maxwell Room. It will also get you prime mat placement at the live music class, which is a good thing since they expect between 2,000 and 3,000 people at that class alone. Huizenga Plaza is located at One E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. YogaFox is located at 1405 N. Federal Highway in Delray Beach. Call 561-703-1236, or visit yogafox.com. Visit yogafest420.com to purchase tickets.
