In the 1800s, Native American tribes throughout Florida were forced to surrender to the United States government. But one tribe, hiding from the U.S. army in the swamps and Everglades of South Florida, refused to sign a peace treaty and more than a century later remains strong and proud. Join the Seminole Tribe of Florida as it celebrates its heritage and culture with other Native American Tribes at the third-annual Seminole Okalee Indian Village Powwow at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. This three-day cultural festival will feature exhibition powwow dancing and competitions among tribes, wildlife and snake shows, a Native American crafts marketplace, traditional Seminole Indian food, and a deep-water alligator wrestling show at the Seminole Okalee Indian Village Amphitheater. The powwow, taking place at 1 Seminole Way, is open to the public Thursday through Saturday. Gates are open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $12 for adults (ages 13 to 54), $10 for seniors (55 and up), $8 for children (ages 5 to 12), and free for children 4 and under. Call 954-797-5531, or visit seminolehardrockhollywood.com.
