Taste It: A Comedy About the Recession is, well, pretty much what the title implies. Boy is living high, boy loses his way, boy meets hot girl who teaches him something about himself, boy has introspective moment, stupid friends are stupid, and it all works out in the end. What makes Taste It special is that it was filmed and produced locally. The entire cast and crew, from the producers to the actors, are South Florida natives: Zachary Weil (director); Gregory Harden, Katie Rotolo, and Mary Olszewska (producers); and Francesca Frigo, Playboy magazine’s Ms. August 2010 (actor). The film is coming to local indie art house — and home to the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival — Cinema Paradiso as part of its “Local Filmmaker Nights,” which give aspiring locals use of the theater at no cost to them. This is the crew’s first feature film and promises to be an impressive showing from the burgeoning filmmakers, who will be on hand to answer questions after the film’s premiere. The production quality isn’t quite Hollywood-polished, but it looks damned good, and so does the acting. Visit tasteitthemovie.com to check out the trailer for yourself. Admission to this one-night-only showing at 10 p.m. Saturday is $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and students with ID, and $6 for FLIFF members. Cinema Paradiso is located at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale. Visit FLIFF.com to purchase tickets.
