Have you ever thought about your freedom? Not the freedom you just gained from finally moving out of your parents' garage apartment at the age of 35. But the freedom you've been given due to the brave men and women who were willing to die for this country. If you're like most Americans, you take it for granted. But now it's time to show your appreciation for our servicemen and -women by participating in the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk at Fort Lauderdale's Huizenga Park. The race, inspired by off-duty New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel in full gear to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, honors not only Siller but the 343 firefighters who died that day. It also celebrates first responders and military service personnel, who serve, sacrifice, and protect us daily. Proceeds benefit the most catastrophically injured, personnel including quadruple and triple amputees and other injured service members who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. Honor the brave by joining the race at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Huizenga Park, located at 32 E. Las Olas Blvd. Early adult registration is $25 and $20 for children. Raise $100 or more and receive an event shirt. Register on race day, beginning at 6 a.m., for $30. Strollers are welcome. Call 321-230-6894, or visit t2trun.org.
