Scientific fact: Everyone likes free stuff. You love getting hooked up with a drink at the bar, and your grandmother loves shoving the dinner rolls in her purse. How about something we can all agree on? Free art! Just like the Smithsonian Museum in D.C., the organization has made a point to spread the gospel of free admission. Often, people who work in the arts just want to see more people become involved, so freebies are not too uncommon.
What makes this one so special? Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live! provides free admission to participating museums around the country. Finally a new kind of event you can share with friends and family who live throughout the U.S. How is the Museum of Art making this special for South Floridians? Well, first off, air conditioning. We kid. It wants to make this an enriching experience. With your ticket, you get free admission all day and even some superb docent tours to go with your new culturally awesome self. Way to be, self! High five!
Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live! is Saturday at Nova Southeastern University Museum of Art (1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Docent tours are at 11 a.m. and noon. Visit smithsonianmag.com/museumday/ticket for more information and to download your free ticket, or call the Museum of Art at 954-525-5500.
