Jimmy Buffett should be the patron saint of old Florida. His music and serious alcohol consumption bring back memories -- or at least spur the imagination -- of days sitting around drinking margaritas with friends while sitting out on the sand overlooking the water with goofy tropical-inspired tunes playing away in the background. Apparently, not much has changed since Buffett's heyday in these parts. On Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m., the sixth-annual Taste of Parrot-dise is bringing the old beach flavor to the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. Local restaurants, including Salt Life Food Shack, 15th Street Fisheries, Bash American Bistro, Gino's Italian American Market & Bakery, Antojitos Venezuelan Restaurant, Rudy's Pub and Restaurant, Stout Sports Bar & Pub, Tequila Sunrise, Bob Roth's New River Groves, and the Pampered Chef, will team up with beverage brands and liquor companies like Margaritaville Foods & Spirits, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Santos Sangria, Lt. Blender's Cocktails in a Bag, and Wines for Humanity to bring guests a tropical seaside food- and beverage-tasting. Entertainment includes a cake-decorating contest, with a Buffett theme (natch), live music by the Calypso Nuts, a raffle, silent auction, and vendors. Held by the Barefoot Children of Fort Lauderdale Parrot Head Club as well as Two Men and a Truck of Fort Lauderdale, the event benefits the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life of Davie/Cooper City. General admission is $45 per person. A special VIP package is available for $80, and includes raffle and auction tickets, three drinks from the bar, and early admission. The IGFA Hall of Fame is located at 300 Gulfstream Way in Dania Beach. Visit tasteofparrotdise.com.
