While summer tends to be thought of as barbecue season, we're kind of backward down here. When everyone else is outside lollygagging around, we're stuck in the house with the A/C blasting. That being said, when the sweaters, vests, and other fall accouterments are coming out up north, our weather is just about settling into perfection. Hey, you take the good with the bad. To celebrate South Floridians' favorite time of year -- or just have an excuse to eat -- GoRiverwalk is hosting its inaugural Smoke on the Water BBQ Feast.
Taking place in downtown Fort Lauderdale's Esplanade Park overlooking the New River, the feast includes food from Voodoo Barbecue & Grill, America's Backyard, Downtowner Saloon, Hickory Stix BBQ, Paradaro Original, Key West Seafood & Spice Company, and more. Obviously, all that meat will need to be washed down somehow; Abita Beer, Brooklyn Brewery, Florida Beer Company, New Belgium Brewing, Sierra Nevada, and Sweet Water Brewing Company are offering tons of liquids to help it go down smoothly. Live bands, Eye on South Florida, and Big 105.9 will be onsite entertaining guests. The event takes place Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Barbecue bites, smoked dishes, and grilled items will be offered from participating restaurants for five bucks apiece. Esplanade Park is located at 400 SW Second St. in Fort Lauderdale.
