October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog Month," and to celebrate, Pets' Broward is hosting a family and dog-friendly community event called "Let's Fetch Their Balls." There is nothing more satisfying than rescuing a pet. In fact, Channing Tatum could remove all the calories from a chocolate cheesecake and feed the entire thing to you while dressed as Magic Mike with the rest of the cast strip-teasing in the background and rescuing a pet would still be more satisfying. Because at the end of the day, the cast will go home and the cheesecake will be gone, and all you will be left with is a fond memory and Type 2 diabetes. But when you rescue a pet, it's the most amazing feeling in the world, because there is literally no one on Earth who is happier to see you at the end of the day, every day.
In Broward County, about 75 cats and dogs are euthanized in shelters every day. That equates to almost 28,000 innocent animals being put down per year. Pets' Broward was formed by concerned citizens who want to end the existence of kill shelters in Broward County. Since the problem is mostly due to overpopulation, Pets' Broward has a goal of doing a communitywide spay and neuter program (which makes the "Let's Fetch Their Balls" title for this event even more appropriate). There will be food trucks, a pet trick contest, and a live DJ, and Broward County Animal Care & Adoption will also be onsite with adoptable dogs and cats. It's taking place at Markham Park, located at 16001 Florida 84 in Sunrise on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit Petsbroward.com, or call 954-590-0055.
