The Stranahan House is throwing a party. A funeral party, that is. For eight nights, the Historic Stranahan House Museum is partnering with Bluefoot Pirate Adventures for a Victorian home funeral and New River ghost cruise. This is your chance to mourn the dead in Fort Lauderdale's oldest house, where at least five people have died in the past century. (For the record, the folks at the Stranahan House don't believe the property is haunted; visitors can decide for themselves.) While a Victorian-era widow mourned for as long as two years, this funeral will last about 45 minutes. Then the party moves to the waterfront, where Pirate Pete will take mourners on a tour of Fort Lauderdale's haunted riverfront attractions. You'll be in good ghostly company: Frank Stranahan drowned himself in the river in 1929. There won't be guts and gore on display, but it's recommended that parents leave their little ones at home. The Stranahan House Halloween Ghost Tour runs October 24 to 27 and October 30 to November 2. Tickets cost $30, and the tour begins at 7:30 p.m. and lasts an hour and a half. Reservations are required. The Stranahan House is located at 335 SE Sixth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. For tickets, call 954-524-4736 or visit stranahanhouse.org.
