If you really know comedy, you know Second City. The improv theater in Chicago has produced some of the most famous and gut-busting comedic masterminds of the past few decades. Everyone from Bill Murray to Stephen Colbert got his footing in this legendary improv underground that is still going strong today.
You know what that means, right? Someone just starting out at Second City today could be the next Tina Fey. OK, good point... she is hard to replicate. But what we are saying is these people are trained funny machines and odds are totally golden that someone will turn out to be über-famous. You are probably asking yourself, "Self, what does this have to do with me?" Well, you/self have the chance to watch these sultans of silly do their thing before they make it big.
Some of the current Second City traveling company are making their way down to South Florida this week to make you laugh so hard, you'll forget about the Dolphins' painful loss Sunday. It will be improv at its finest, with new games/sketches pulled from the headlines and plenty of homage paid to the greats who paved the way. Want to pull out a crazy "I saw her when..." at a party in eight years? Then don't miss this show.
Second City Presents Happily Ever Laughter this Thursday (October 24) at 8 p.m. inside Bailey Hall, located at 3501 Davie Road, Building 4, Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $25. Visit baileyhall.org, or call 954-201-6880.
