If you want a new way to learn about the many facets of art, take the time to discover the journey of Frank Gehry, a modern architect who revolutionized the way we produce and view architecture. A rival of the status quo within his own realm, Gehry's expertise is depicted in Academy Award winner Sydney Pollack's new documentary, Sketches of Frank Gehry. Viewers will follow Gehry's progress as an architect and artist through the production of rough sketches to moving models of cardboard and tape that are eventually transformed into unbelievably breathtaking structures composed of steel, titanium, and glass. His humble beginnings in an artistic sense cultivated the contemporary works of art he is best known for today, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain. To provide ample opportunity for appreciating Gehry's work, the Nova Southeastern University Museum of Art is hosting two viewings of this film on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3 to 4:30. The film will be shown in the Horvitz Auditorium, located at 1 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. The duration of the movie is 84 minutes. Admission is $10 per person, including museum admission. Museum members can go for free. To RSVP, visit nova.edu. Contact Kelly Medlin at kmedlin@moafl.org, or call 954-262-0227.
