The Girls' Club is presenting a performance art piece titled "Look at How You're Looking at Me When I'm Telling You This." And if that title is at all confusing, it's because this is performance art and it's supposed to confuse the hell out of you. In fact, it's supposed to evoke thoughts and reactions you never thought you'd have, which is what draws audiences to performance art across the country. It's a challenge, but it's a fun one. The Friday-night show will feature Broward-based artist and choreographer Jenny Larsson. She has enlisted people to perform "investigations into pedestrian movement," which looks at the connections people make from different backgrounds through movement and conversations. There will be voice-overs, audience inclusion, and a reception following the performance complete with wine and a Q&A with Larsson.
"Look at How You're Looking at Me When I'm Telling You This" will be presented on Friday at the Girls' Club, located at 117 NE Second St. in Fort Lauderdale. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 8 sharp. Admission is free, and seating is first-come, first-served. The following day, from 2 to 4 p.m., Larsson will host a workshop on modern and experimental dance as it relates to her performance the night before. Those who attend the workshop will move, draw, chat, and develop improvisational choreography with Larsson. The workshop is $20; student discounts are available.
