Being John Lithgow

Invited to inspire college students, actor, musician, author, and arts advocate John Lithgow is kicking off Palm Beach State Colleges STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineer, Arts, and Math) Initiative fundraiser by sharing his wisdom about the arts. In an event put together to encourage and prepare students to create a local, diversified workforce of skilled professionals who specialize in the STEAM fields, Lithgow has the credentials to amaze attendees. Best-known for his work in theater, film, and television, Lithgow will share his philosophy, "Be Creative, Be Useful, Be Practical, Be Generous." Channeling a successful career since the early '70s, Lithgow has a reputation that remains untouched. From numerous back-to-back Oscar nominations for his roles in The World According to Garp and Terms of Endearment and Twilight Zone to writing eight New York Times best-selling children's picture books, there really isn't much Lithgow hasn't done within the arts. Aside from his extensive accolades, Lithgow has won the hearts of the Palm Beach State College's administrative staff due to his thorough understanding of how creativity and the arts can enhance the traditional approach to education, literacy, and life. Support the goals of the STEAM Initiative, titled "Inside the Mind of John Lithgow," at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cohen Pavilion Kravis Center, located at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach. Tickets cost $125 each. A table for ten is $1,000. Sponsorships are available at various levels. Call 561-868-3450, or visit palmbeachstate.edu/foundation/steam.
