Beer fests bring together craft beer enthusiasts geeking out over craft brews, and frat boys going on a bender. Winetastings are a great way to get drunk with the illusion of class and sophistication. Though we love both booze-fueled events equally -- or any drunken fest, for that matter -- sometimes we need a new excuse to consume copious amounts of alcohol. Sure, bourbon and whiskey are great, but neither is conducive to mass consumption outdoors in this tropical climate. Vodka, maybe, but it's not exactly diverse. Rum, on the other hand, is perfect for imbibing year-round in South Florida. This Saturday is your chance to drink plenty at the second-annual Tropical Rum Fest.
Taking place at Meyer Amphitheater from 3 to 10 p.m., the event will feature the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Caribbean and Latin America. The fest will showcase DJs from around the world as well as local reggae bands. A $40 ticket gets you access to live music and four samples of rum or mixed drinks, and a $100 VIP pass includes food such as jerk chicken and pork, plantains, Jamaican cocktail patties, rum cake, aged rum punch, and unlimited rum drinks. Meyer Amphitheater is located at 401 Evernia St. in West Palm Beach. Visit tropicalrumfest.com.
