Join the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood for an exhibit opening reception for four distinctive artists -- Augustina Woodgate, Johnny Robles, Juan Erman Gonzalez, and Tony Mena -- on Friday. The opening reception celebrates Woodgate's "Rug" series of displays, which are hand-sewn rugs made from recycled stuffed animal skins. The rugs were collected from previous owners by Woodgate and arranged to depict the spiritual and mental world in woven form. Robles, based in Miami, presents a nostalgic body of work that means to create an emotional trigger leading adults back to their childhood memories. Gonzalez's work, "Over My Rainbow," is a mixed-media installation that resembles "Ozlandia." His message concentrates on migration, transculturism, exile, and displacement. Lastly, Mena's art is about day-to-day objects found in the Salvadoran seacoast, such as typical sandals known as "yinas" or "chancletas." The opening reception takes place March 28 from 6 to 10 p.m. and is free for members, $10 for nonmembers. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be a donation bar. The exhibit will be displayed for the public from Saturday to May 25. Free parking is available at the center, which is located at 1650 Harrison St. in Hollywood. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. General admission is $7 for adults; $4 for students, seniors, and children ages 4 to 17; and free for members and children under age 4. Call 954-921-3274, or visit artandculturecenter.org.
