Art, Naturally

They've congregated along the banks of Riverbend Park, transferring trees' waterfront reflections to canvas. They've met at the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge, capturing glimmers of the early-morning sun in person. And now after ten "paint-outs," a local artist group is ready to exhibit (and sell) their works at "Art Outside the Walls: En Plein Air" at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach. En plein air -- French for "in the open air" -- is a style of painting or drawing done outdoors. As in Monet's "Water Lillies" series, working outdoors allows an artist to capture the quality of natural light firsthand. Unlike Monet's works, the pieces for sale will be in your price range. On Thursday, members of the Plein Air Palm Beach artist group will kick off the exhibit with a preview party at 5:30 p.m. The artwork will be displayed in the great indoors of the cultural council's Robert M. Montgomery Jr. Building, located at 601 Lake Ave. in Lake Worth. Admission is $10 for nonmembers and free to Cultural Council of Palm Beach members. Visit palmbeachculture.com, or 561-472-3341.
