A performance that relives the pivotal moments of the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot, directed by Mike Nichols, is more than a rip-off. With its own twist, Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, amplified by the presence of beautiful showgirls, cows, killer rabbits, and French people. If the name throws you off or you aren't able to detect the relevance, just think back to the infamous line in Monty Python: "We eat ham and jam and Spam a lot." Either way, the musical comedy is sure to be a hit, considering the original 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including the Tony for Best Musical of the 2004-05 season. Catch the opening night of Spamalot on Friday at 8 p.m. ($28 and $32 plus opening-night elegance) at the Lake Worth Playhouse, located at 714 Lake Ave. in downtown Lake Worth. In case you can't wait that long, the preview night is Thursday at 8 p.m. ($23 and $27). Before the preview, there will be a preshow dinner at Paradiso in downtown Lake Worth at 6 p.m. An all-inclusive package, patrons pay $55 for a three-course meal and premium seats for the preview performance. Featured throughout April, evening and matinee performances will run April 12 to 27 at 2 and 8 p.m. ($26 and $30). Tickets can be purchased by calling the Lake Worth Playhouse box office at 561-586-6410 or visiting lakeworthplayhouse.org.
