How boring is your plan for Father's Day? Cigars, power ties, and booze are played out. Not only are these ideas unoriginal but the traditional view of Father's Day is still distinctly lacking in options for modern gay families. Pride South Florida is solving this problem by presenting Little House on the Ferry at the Broward Center. This original musical is billed as a marriage-equality story line with the ability to educate while also entertaining. June is Pride Month, and Little House has been selected to kick off this cultural event in style. Little House on the Ferry takes place on Fire Island, where main character Randall is celebrating his 30th birthday. Quickly, the reason to celebrate shifts as marriage equality becomes legal in New York. Everything has changed in the most remarkable way possible. Now Randall is caught in a love triangle with his incredible friends by his side aiding his decision. The most exciting thing about this story line is the cheekiness and over-the-top costume changes. When it comes to music, Little House on the Ferry soars. With 15 bold and original songs plus ten reprises, this homegrown music is fun for the whole family while also giving an important and often left-out sector of Father's Day celebrants the opportunity for a perfect way to enjoy themselves without having to pretend they like cigars. Pride South Florida Presents Little House on the Ferry this Friday through Sunday at the Broward Center for Performing Arts, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 2, with closed captioning for the hearing-impaired. Tickets cost $30 each. Visit littlehouseontheferry.com, or call 646-342-7738.
