A Culture of Symphony
Entering its 23rd year, Summerfest links up players of the Symphony of the Americas with an ensemble from overseas for one month's worth of performances across Florida. Joining the Symphony of Americas this year will be the highly acclaimed Mission Chamber Orchestra, which is making the trek from Rome to perform. The Mission Chamber Orchestra is noted for its dynamic performances at the Vatican. Now Fort Lauderdale audiences can hear the same renditions of Vivaldi classics that may have once been heard by the pontiff himself. Also on queue, on top of the Mission Chamber's standard sets filled with dances and serenades, are classics by Sarasate, Grieg, Saint-Saëns, and even a little Cole Porter.
This lively symphonic cultural exchange begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Broward Center for Performing Arts' Amaturo Theater, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $25 to $35, or $60 for VIP. Call 954-462-0222, or visit symphonyoftheamericas.org. Alex Rendon
