THU 5/1

A number of children will get to go on a trip around the world this spring and summer, without leaving South Florida. These lucky kids will travel to five countries on four continents to explore the diverse cultures of the world through hands-on art activities, all for about five bucks.

Through the popular "Meet the Masters" family program at Old School Square Cultural Arts Center (51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach), children ages 5 to 7 can discover the world, learn about other civilizations, and still laugh with their friends while creating art projects. The journey stops in China on Thursday and continues the first Thursday of each month through September. Other destinations to be explored are Panama (June 5), Zimbabwe (July 10), Mexico (August 7), and Kenya (September 4). The program is held at the Cornell Museum of Art and History in the Interactive Children's Gallery from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The four-acre center's "Meet the Masters" family program costs $1 per child for members. For nonmembers, the first child is free with adult admission; additional children are only $1 each. Prices are for each class. Call 561-243-7922 or visit www.oldschool.org. -- Melissa Malamut

TUE 5/6 Beach Day Care

Mother Nature gets a tan

In keeping with Broward's nature craze, Hollywood offers a unique opportunity for kids. "Nature Tots at the Beach" may sound like some sort of weird, alternative healing fair or maybe a new type of snack food (mmm... tater tots), but it's actually an event for toddlers ages 2 to 4. Starting at 10 a.m., Hollywood North Beach Park (3501 N. Ocean Dr., Hollywood) offers a nature program that includes stories and various activities. The tots and parents can get up-close and personal with a variety of plants, animals, crafts, and nature-themed activities. Or they can just play in the sand and surf. Ya know, little kid stuff. The fee is $2 per child; preregistration is required. Call 954-926-2444 or 954-926-2480. -- Audra Schroeder
