Down the garbage chute goes the leftover wedding cake that sat — spoiling — in your freezer. That cake is rotten and useless. It may be hard to express how freedom tastes, but a Fourth of July hot dog has nothing on a divorce cake (divorce cake’s much sweeter). And, while finalized divorce papers are good for record’s sake, nothing symbolizes the disunion of a marriage better than a divorce party.

Taste the sweetness of divorce yourself at Lisa’s Divorce Party from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Mamajuana Café. There’s no cover, and Mamajuana will offer complimentary food to soak up the booze at its cash bar. Elite Cake Creations will put several divorce cakes on display, offering samples of each kind. Lisa — the divorcee of honor - chose a sugar sculpture, but other divorce cake favorites include a bride dragging the broom off to the garbage, where rats await, and a cemetery cake, complete with a little coffin on top to bury the wedding band. Hold on, maybe that rotten wedding cake isn’t entirely useless: feed it to the bitter bastards who believe divorces should only be mourned.

Mamajuana Café is at 225 Altara Ave. in Coral Gables. For more information, check out mamajuanacafefl.com. RSVP to Stenovia L. Curry at 954-581-6211, or [email protected].
