While the tourists on Hollywood’s Broadwalk spend their Sundays hunting for tacky T-shirts, locals in the know are busy shooting fresh wheat grass shots and squeezing gold zucchini at Josh’s Organic Garden. Forget about Whole Foods — this market has a selection of certified organic items that you never even knew you wanted: baby tatsoi leaves (Asian spinach), dried mulberries, pluots, rainbow chard, curly purple kale, and even mameys. Expect your visit to be as entertaining as it is nutritious; founder Josh Steinhauser is a yelling, stocking, kissing, and donating machine (he says up to one-third of the day’s profits go to Broward Outreach Center). Josh’s Organic Garden is housed under three structures behind the Oceanwalk Mall (101 N. Ocean Dr., Hollywood). Shop every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or call 954-456-3276. It costs nothing to watch the action, but you’ll need to bring some green of your own if you want to take Josh’s home.
