A drizzle of Matisse here, a scatter of Picasso there. Finding a well-rounded body of an artist’s work in one location can be unbearably difficult, unless you hit up the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Thanks to a generous loan from the Kaufmann family, you and your fellow fans of American modernism can soak up all the Milton Avery you can handle. Spanning roughly a quarter century, from the late 1920s to the early ’50s, these 21 oil paintings vibrate with color, allowing you to understand why many consider him to be a true master of pigment wrangling.

Representational in form, and abstract in bleary, hazy, loveliness, this collection captures the best of Avery. It’s dreamy and fanciful, but it’s on a limited run; catch it through February 21. The Coral Springs Museum of Art is located at 2855 Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs. Call 954-340-5000, or visit csmart.org.
