Set in a Saint-Tropez drag cabaret, La Cage Aux Folles tells the tale of gay couple George and Albin, their nightclub, and the upcoming wedding of their son to the daughter of a conservative family. Maybe this sounds familiar, as Robin Williams and Nathan Lane once starred in a film adaptation known as The Birdcage. As a heartwarming tale about family and queers and acceptance and drag, it is especially dear to the ladies of Lips, who are paying a special tribute to the Broadway musical during a “Dinner With Divas” cabaret-style show. Hosted by Nicolette, the glitzy cast puts its own musical spin on several impersonations, including Cher, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, and Madonna. It'll be like attending an actual nightclub performance at La Cage. Throughout the evening, the audience will have the chance to win tickets to La Cage Aux Folles starring George Hamilton June 12 to 24 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Lips is located at 1421 E. Oakland Park Blvd. in Oakland Park. There is a $15 food minimum and a $5 show cover charge. Call 954-567-0987, or visit lipsusa.com.
