Say adieu to the archetypal ringmasters of Ringling Bros. past. Instead of a red-top-hat, ornate-overcoat-wearing man, you’ll find “Tony Tone.” He’s witty and hip and embodies the spirit of the UniverSoul Circus. Operated and owned entirely by African-Americans, this big-top traveling circus is based in Atlanta. The soundtrack at this circus won’t be those cartoonish circus jingles — entertainers will dance to Beyoncé. They’ll get folks in the crowd in a dance-off; they’ll conduct the Soul Train Line. The elephants will dance to Rihanna. Here, there’s an urge to showcase talents collected from an eclectic pool of black Americans — as well as people from the world over: Chinese aerialists, acrodunk players from Belgium and Holland, contortionists from everywhere, people who play with tigers, and people who walk on razor-sharp wire. There will be acrobats, horses, and Caribbean dancers who will sashay under limbo sticks lit on fire. The soul circus comes to town at 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday at Sun Life Stadium (2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens). More shows are scheduled daily until Sunday. Tickets cost $15.50 to $25.
