Swinging '60s

The Norton Museum of Art will host the "Circa 1960: Figure and Form" exhibit beginning Thursday. Don’t expect psychedelic tunes and the abstract art made famous by Pollock; this exhibit is more like a quiet librarian wearing racy underwear. While these artists were inspired by the abstract art of their peers, their art focuses more on the shape and form of the real world. Though they must have been the only sober artists of their era, the figurative art displayed still evokes powerful social messages like "Fight the Man" and "Save the Empire." The exhibit will take place at the Norton Museum of Art, located at 1451 S. Olive Ave. in West Palm Beach. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Thursdays, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 561-832-5196, email, or visit
