The Panthers are as good a team in the NHL as any for the first 2-1/2 periods, anyway. After that, they seem to have problems finding ways to close out opponents. Well, here come the Atlanta Thrashers at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, to the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Parkway, Sunrise) for the second time in 11 days. The team entered December ranking seventh in power play goals and third in the league in penalty killing, a bit better than the Panthers (28th in the power play and 29th in penalty killing) over the same period. Add into that the Panthers woes at home and the Thrashers success on the road and the scales seem tipped toward Atlanta. Still, the Cats could pull out a win they just need some production from the rest of the squad and not just Stephen Weiss and Nathan Horton. Tickets start at $10. Visit Ticketmaster.com.
