Best Hip-hop Vocalist Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach 2007 - Butta Verses

Readers' Choice: Rayko Pipes
As far as hip-hopping and b-boying in Broward County is concerned, there's nobody else with the lyrical dexterity or the street clout of Fort Lauderdale's Butta Verses. He's a member of the De La Soul family and soaked in a lot of exposure touring with them, but he's still got his own rhyming style that's witty, aggressive, and often comical at the same time. On stage, he delivers punch lines at rapid speed and has the cadence and breath control of a veteran. He was born and raised in the Bronx and carries the essence of hip-hop culture in his persona, both on and off the stage. Graffiti work, b-boying, DJ'ing, and MC'ing are all apart of his repertoire, which is what it used to take to even be considered decent in this genre. With those bases covered, he's miles ahead of most of the fly-by-night rappers popping up recently. He's also put out a few stellar mixtapes since relocating to Broward County that showcase his rhyming ability and buttery-smooth delivery. And since hip-hop today, even at the local level, remains saturated with garbage, it's good to see a rapper like Butta V standing tall and hopefully showing the new jacks how to do it.

First of all- Congrats to Butta Verses- That dude is dope and well deserved of this honor. Secondly, many, many thanks to the READERS of NEW TIMES who voted and selected me... hence the title "readers choice"- which brings me to my new number one fan- Greg. Seems Greg has a serious issue with me, and BV. Unfortunately though, his whole beef is about how I wrote the article and named myself the readers choice. FOR THE RECORD- I didnt write the article, nor have i ever written anything for New Times or any other music publication. I dont know where you are getting your information from- but you can correct it now. SO you and your mysterious amazing rapper should use your own advice and " DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK."

oh just an fyi-

"Hip Hop means the whole culture of the movement.. when you talk about rap..Rap is part of the hip hop culture..The emceeing..The djaying is part of the hip hop culture. The dressing, the languages are all part of the hip hop culture. The break dancing the b-boys, b-girls ..how you act, walk, look, talk are all part of hip hop culture.. and the music is colorless.. Hip Hop music is made from Black, brown, yellow, red, white.. whatever music that gives you the grunt.. that funk.. that groove or that beat.. It's all part of hip hop...." -Afrika Bambaataa's Definition Of Hip Hop

You do know who that is right?

Peace in this f**ked up world-

take it easy...

1st i gotta say thanks to new times for giving me this mention. i'm interested in knowing exactly who greg thinks should have got it. it's not like i think that there aren't other cats who deserve to be viewed in that same light. its a bitch move to say it should have been someone else, then not say who that someone is. the fact that "dude is like 40" just means that i have been doing this on a local level, state wide level, continental level, and international level longer then some others may have. the hate makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside because i know it all stems from envy. so please, continue to wish you and yours were me and mine. keep the dream alive, and one day it shall come to pass. the local mc's out here know i support them!!!!!

Is this for real?!? Seriously. Butta verses??!!? Dude is like 40 and drop one album..just ringtones!

''And since hip-hop today, even at the local level, remains saturated with garbage, it's good to see a rapper like Butta V standing tall and hopefully showing the new jacks how to do it.''

This nigga don't know shit about the local scene and who's really making moves. Readers choice..Rayko Pipes?!?

You write the article and name YOURSELF the readers choice..and you DON'T even do hip hop.

That shit right there is abuse of power and down right pathetic.

What the fuck is wrong with New Times?!?! You wonder Hip Hoppers pick up City Link instead.

I suggest, New Times, before you print something up, DO YOUR FUCKING HOMEWORK! And get someone who actually knows what the local scene is about! I won't even name who should of got it, cause then that's a bitch move when it's obvious. But everybody KNOWS who should of got it, so it don't even make a difference in our minds. And if you DON'T know who should have got it, your fucking lying to yourself and others or don't even belong to have access to the New Times to write this BS. You know what though, winning best Hip Hop act or w/e in Broward is like a menatlly challenged kid winning a race..yea you won, but you still retarded and ain't going no where.

My man is doin bigger things than this, but like I said EVERYONE knows who should have won this.....yea him,,you got it right.
