Men aren't always that comfortable pampering themselves. Most guys are more likely to buy spa packages for their spouses than expect one as a gift for themselves. Theories abound on why that is, but it's important for certain male-only day spas like ManKind in downtown Fort Lauderdale to pick up the slack for this underserved demographic. Let the name say it all. Every inch of this spa oozes manhood, from the mahogany wood décor and pool table to the twin barbers on staff who look like auto mechanics. They have a bar on site that can pour as much complimentary Dewars scotch as you can handle and have free Killians and Michelob on tap for paying customers as well. ManKind specializes in Swedish and deep-tissue massage and has three certified massage therapists on staff to cut down on wait time. There's an executive feel to the place, and everything on the inside is legit. The only happy ending you can expect is to kick back and get a pedicure while sipping on an espresso.

As a guy who does take advantage of spa treatments regularly - waxing, manicures, etc. and when in certain cities I get a hot shave. Since I live in Ft. Lauderdale I tried ManKind for a hot shave and when I left my face and neck were cut-up like crazy. Neither I, nor my girlfriend could believe it. I would NEVER go back nor recommend this establishment.

This place is great- when you walk in. But talk to the owner for more than 2 minutes and you want to poke your own eyes out with the scissors that horrible stylist in the corner is using. He is not only fake & ungenuine, but cocky and arrogant. This is a shame for the two great twin barbers that work there.. and I'm sure a few other good people trying to make a living. The spa was mediocre.. Not to mention the fact that he's messed around with many of the "spa attendants" that are employed there--very bad business. "Best of..".. I don't think so. You're better off going to another local spa... I have had great experiences at a couple in Fort Lauderdale. Take your business elsewhere.

Unlicensed for both massage AND alchohol. Great write up, however, you might want to consider going to one of the great licensed establishments in the area. In an unlicensed establishment, you run all kinds of risks... as well as sitting there at the "Bar" when the Department of Alchohol and Tobacco raids the place. Best to stick to the haircuts and pool in my humber opinion. Do a seach for massage in downtown, or Las Olas and you will most likely find numerious places who display their massage establishement license, as required by law.
