Look, everyone knows about the Broward/Palm Beach holy trinity of venues for mid-sized touring acts: Revolution, Culture Room, and Respectable Street. But what about hyper-local spots that nurture homegrown talent, especially the kind that can't legally get into most other venues? For the cream of that crop, we give you the Talent Farm, nestled in a shopping center in the far reaches of Pembroke Pines. Sure, it's so far west it's practically in the swamp, but it's the hub of a very thriving microscene of mostly young bands whose names often form complete sentences. The place will give almost anyone a first shot at playing live, but at the same time, it boasts a more professional stage setup and sound system than most bars back on the beaten local-circuit path. And the Talent Farm is more clued-in about the internet than most local venues: It streams all its shows online for free, recognizing that will draw more of a crowd in the long run. Further, for a small fee, during off-hours a house engineer offers simple demo recording services. Nurturing tomorrow's local favorites today, the Talent Farm truly lives up to its name.

If it wasnt for the Talent Farm i would have never had the chance of seeing Jet Lag Gemini! TWICE! i national touring band that has toured with big names such as The All American Rejects and that appears as soundtrack music for TV shows! plus they dont have none of the BS most other venues have...

plus free parking! where can you get that now a days!

The Talent Farm is Vega Under Fire's favorite Florida venue! Great P.A system and great staff! The owner Kevin Burns is one of the nicest venue owners we have ever worked with on tour! This venue is fair to the bands and the show go-er. I am very happy to see The Talent Farm recognized in the NEW TIMES! Go BURRRRNS!

My name is Cliff Wallach Greenberg. I am the musical director for The ROKAFONIK PHILHARMONIK and producer of many local bands. I have been working out of The Talent Farm for 4 years. Not only is it a great venue for local talent to perform in( which I have done many times now) it is also a great rehearsal space and recording studio. It is the kind of place that a band can do some serious work in. From recording to live video and webcasting musicians can grow here. So many venues look down at local bands and dont give them the chance. A band can't develop a following if they never get to play anywhere because they cant bring enough people in. The Talent Farm is a true grass roots movement that i am happy to support and be part of. Great room, great staff and an all around positive experience. So I agree with your best venue award and hope that more people will come and see what is happening there. It's worth the drive!

Trully, this is the most amazing venue in all of south florida. Not only does is host great music on a weekly basis, but it's an enviroment that feels like home. It brings real life into music. After hearing your favorie band pay, you can go to the merch, and talk to them, or ask for pictures, without having to pay for nitty-gritty VIP passes. Also, it's parent-friendly. Not once, in the time span that i've been going to TTF, has a fight broken out, or has there been drugs or alcohol. This is trully a place where music, is just there for the sake of music. I've made tons of really great friend (some being band members) and i wouldn't change it for the world. Or revolution....

Big kudos and congrats to Kevin and The Talent Farm. We've played the spot countless times on different tours and not only is the venue run with professionalism, but its' run with kindness (something you don't see a lot these days). Anyhow, this award couldn't go to a better recipient!!

To say the very least, I actually work there...I'm one of the peeps who are a part of the driving force, and I'm proud of that to be honest. I love working there because I don't have to act, I can just be...even if I'm one of the only few selective individuals who doesn't really listen to any of the acts that actually plays shows there, aside from work of course, but I don't particularly enjoy the styles that commonly go there. I'm more of a club type who'd like to bang my head all night long to a gangster groove until I was sweating my balls off & suffocating to breathe from dancing. STILL, TTF does not exclude ANY acts whatsoever...which makes me feel completely & entirely comfortable to experience this venue at every awakening moment during a show. I don't get to play a lot of shows considering the fact that I work there, but when I get a chance to throw down some dance music aside from all the rock music...I feel like the place actually matters and makes sense for why it exists all in all. Mainly, for music! That's all we're really worried about anyways in terms of a venue...so I'm overall glad & proud to be a part of the standing actions behind TTF. Because we are NOT stereotypical...our doors are ALWAYS open to music, and ALL forms of music.

Great article and right on the money. This place is awesome. My kids (17 and 19) go to the Talent Farm and it's one of the only places around that gives me a comfort level when they go out. The owner/operator Kevin Burns is truly passionate about what they're doing there - nurturing local talent in a professional, clean, drug-free environment. I wish there was a place like this when I was growing up. Kudos Talent Farm!

Ever since July of 2008 I had known exactly what The Talent Farm was--a small local venue where everyone hung out on the weekends and some of my friend's bands even played there. But up until September of that same year, I had no idea how incredible this place actually was. I am at The Talent Farm almost every weekend when possible [there was a period of time where I DID go every weekend] and I must admit some of the best nights of my life happened right there. From the smallest bands who attract people like me and maybe two other fans to more well known names such as NeverShoutNever! and We The Kings, this venue is someplace that I don't think I can live without. The environment is so incredibly chilled out and everyone that comes just has a relaxed and courteous disposition. It is probably the only venue that you don't have to worry about drunk people trying to pour alcohol into your drinks or someone bringing the intoxicating smell of drugs into a place that is meant for fun and only that. At The Talent Farm, you can belong there, even if you don't. You feel welcomed just by walking in and it's probably the best feeling in the world. I would not trade this venue for Revolution or the Culture Room just because after all this time, there's never been a dull moment.
