I hate seeing the old posts of the "Old shop"... no one knows the true stories unless you were close to the events with an unbiased opinion and observation. The new shop feels like your are welcomed and in a home like environment. Formula Ink DOES house great artists. Come and see for yourself, say you saw this and then make an opinion for yourself. This is probably one of the few DRAMA FREE studios.... And i over heard it's going to get a face lift soon too! Cant wait to see what they have in store this year!
Best Tattoo Artist - 2009
Holden Ritchison, Formula Ink
OK, so this is the kind of tattoo shop where you hang out — and the staff wants you to. Owner Holden Ritchison, a big Santa Claus of a man, started this new shop just a few doors down from the Culture Room. With an open-plan space that looks more like a den, Formula Ink has the best abandoned boyfriend/girlfriend section ever — a huge couch, a huge TV, and a selection of DVDs and magazines. Formula Ink is home to some of the best-kept-secret artists in town. Ritchison excels at huge-scale, deftly shaded, jaw-dropping traditional Asian work. What's more, his prices are shockingly fair for custom sitdowns. Ask him for a quote, but you'll be more than happy to hand over the cash for an experience that will leave you smiling.
holden knows his trade. he drew art right on me then tatt00ed it on. good job. you can tell he doesn;t like drama at his shops.
Well, I can tell you that mike learned to trace when he learned to tattoo- His work is stale and he uses the same equasion of colors for everything, and talks a bunch of trash about anyone he feels can show him up or that he is jealous of. Lost folks get tattoos from lost folks. Original is not a compilation of tracing. When S954 first opened, it was Grande'. Then the 'Big Man' got glued to money and hype and turned the 'art gallery' part into a corall for fools and fakes that would lure in junk and drugs and butt-molesting and b.j.s in tha bathroom. That is why I left, because of the violence and conspiracies as well. I have the same tata on each arm done at the same time by Mike and Holden. They both have there 'crappy' aspects. So, sure, if you want to see a fresh out of the house 18 year old girl get wrung out- let here visit either 'Shop' But then again, there are plenty of people who just do not know what Art, Integrity, and Heart and Respect combined are really all about. Even bottled water lasts a few years before it goes stale and stinks. Where are they now and why do they keep changing face-It's all hype till you sit on that couch and get a blob of vasaline on you with some fresh ink, on the doorknobs as well. Yeah, let's hang out in a germ,! I mean, Tattoo shop.FHD
Dayuuuum! Someone is straight-up sippin' on that salty, salty, salty "Hatorade" flavor... Not a good look, at all.
I was just over at Studio 954's website, and, wow yourself, let me tell you, if you were nearly as good at promoting and marketing your shop and its artists (that is what you're doing here, after all, right?) as say, talking shit-- maybe you'd update that mug, redesign it with portfolios of all the radness you got going on.
Egg on your face, y'all are still linking to Holden, off your site.
Egg. Face. Face. Egg.
How does new times even determine what or who the "best artist" is? Is there a rubric that they use? If so, where can I find a copy of this rubric? My understanding is that this is just arbitrary and Holden probably gave the reporter a free tattoo of a Japanese symbol.
Wow! Are you guys delusional! Holden was fired from Studio 954, (along with his horrible drunken pothead loser girlfriend Kirsten) like last Halloween. When you say "he seceded with the best artists", you are lying! Mike Eck, is still there, which everyone knows is the best artist Studio 954 has had, for years! And Formula Ink is a mess, just like his work has become. He copies most of his art, and changes it slightly, then passes it off, as if he created it. Oh, and there isn't a single person working at Formula Ink that has finished their apprenticeship, other than that fat-Santa-fraud, so yeah they would be "best kept secrets" in tattooing, because before a few months ago they weren't tattooing. Which the crap they put out fully shows! So, if New Times is saying that Holden was voted 'Best Tattoo Artist'...I'm saying, "I demand a recount"!Because I sure don't support any, lying, thieving, Santa-looking, perverts. Who get fired for stealing, then suddenly have enough funds to open a new shop. And if you think that a 20 year old who guzzles vodka WHILE she tattoos, or an annoying pothead who hits on every chic by quoting 'Family Guy', is a cool staff to hangout with, then you all must be crazy! The only Formula they have is a Formula for how to get your next cover-up...Studio 954, is still the best shop to chill in, and is 1000X better now that the air doesn't wreak of desperate apprentices, fighting over who sucks more!Honestly with REAL Artists like: Mike Eck, Sahara, Morgucci, Legend and Tara, why would you ever want to go anywhere else!- Sarah-Beara
Boy, you'd have to first be "educated" to know what "ill-educated" meant! Now get your ass home 'fo yo daddy finds out you playin' in other people's feces, again!
Nice, Holdie! You deserve that, man. Two and half years of continually allowing me to have some of the best work around, bar-none! Glad to know you as both an insanely-talented artist and friend. Anyone contemplating who to go to for the best traditional work in the Broward/Palm Beach area, contemplate no more...
