A Lot Like a Rolling Stone
For any musician, being compared to Bob Dylan is an honor. Unless theyre referring to his hair. But the artistic comparison puts the artist side by side with arguably one of the greatest and most incisive songwriters of our time. Its a lot to live up to, and yet, Brazils Caetano Veloso has done just that over the course of his 45-year career. The singer/songwriter and guitarist was considered, along with Gilberto Gil, one of the pioneers of the countrys famed avant-garde Tropicalia or Tropicalismo movement of the 60s. But Veloso has ever been a shape-shifter, merging influences ranging from Brazilian folk to rock to fado to tango.
And you can catch him live in South Florida at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fillmore Miami Beach (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). The multiple Grammy winner will demonstrate what Bob Dylan wouldve sounded like in Brazil. Call 305-673-7300, or hit ticketmaster.com for deets.
