A New Spot to Score Greens

Slow foods and the "local first" mentality are (finally!) getting their due in Fort Lauderdale, so perhaps it is fitting that the Las Olas Sunday Market has been given new, high-profile digs. The weekly market has moved from its out-of-the-way setting on 12th Street to the tourist-friendly confines of the YOLO Plaza. The move is intended to drive up visibility and foot traffic, bringing more customers to peruse the organic produce, fresh-cut flowers, prepared foods, and other farmers' market fare offered by about 30 vendors. The Downtown Fort Lauderdale Civic Association was instrumental in the market's relaunch, and the organization has said the move should mean easier parking and more growth. The Las Olas Sunday Market is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at YOLO Plaza, located at 333 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. There is no admission fee, and prices vary by vendor and product. Call 954-214-9933, or visit downtownfortlauderdalecivicassociation.org.
