A Stinking Good Time
Sporting massive dragon breath is a point of pride -- not shame -- at this weekend's 14th-annual Delray Beach Garlic Fest, where most everyone will be chowing down on the pungent bulb. Garlic is the focal point for numerous food booths and several cooking demos, as well as the star ingredient in the Garlic Chef Competition, which features the culinary skills of local chefs like Lindsay Autry and Bruce Feingold. In addition to flavor oddities -- garlic funnel cake, anyone? -- the festival features live music, with performances on Friday by Lifehouse, Chase Stites, and the Fabulous Fleetwoods. Andy Childs Band and Pepper take the stage on Saturday, while the Turnstiles and the Long Run are among those to play Sunday.
The Delray Beach Garlic Fest is 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The festivities are held in downtown Delray Beach at Old School Square, located at 51 N. Swinton Ave. Tickets cost $10 before 6 p.m. and $15 after 6, or $10 for the entire day Sunday.
